It's up and at 'em at about 8:00 AM. All of the guests are invited outside to their designated areas to relieve themselves, stretch and play. During this time breakfast is prepared, water is freshened, and beds are straightened out. Then it's in for breakfast served in their individual pens. After eating. it's outside again for playtime -- ball throwing, tug of war, wrestling, leaping, sniffing or snoozing in the sun. All of this is done under supervision.
Since the toy breeds are so fragile, a separate area is provided for them. Safety is a priority, particularly for the small ones, and we make sure that they are secure overhead as well.
Playtime stops at about 11:30 until 2 PM. At that time, we turn on the TV (Animal Planet of course) or music and the dogs go into their individual pens. This is naptime and the dogs really need it. Many are asleep by the time we put on the music. This is also lunch time for the puppies who are visiting .Play resumes after that until around 5 PM when dinner is prepared. You can feel the eager anticipation from the dogs waiting to be served in their pens. After eating they are let out one more time for about half an hour and then it's time to go in for the evening. We continue playing music to soothe any homesick soul until about 10 PM when it's time to go outside for one last time.
Once they have relieved themselves it's back in for evening song time ....they have the privilege (tongue in cheek) of hearing us sing to them, being sure to include each and every name of the dogs in the songs we croon. At that time we go into the individual pens to pet, cuddle and hug our residents. We turn on the sound machine, playing either the lull of the ocean or the human heart beat. Then it's lights out!
